Hi. How can we help you?

We're always happy to help and answer any questions you may have. Should you not find you answer then please contact us and one of our lovely reps will get back to you. We're here to make your journey to Iceland magical.

Well, we really dropped the ball there. We’ve been operating since 1945 and are one of the leading DMC’s in Iceland. However, our core focus has always been on organizing and providing experiences to travel agencies visiting Iceland. So even though we’ve had over 10 million happy visitors join our tours, they’ve likely booked through one of our partners.

Only in recent years did we open direct booking through our site. You could say we are “new” to providing our services directly to travelers. And we’re overjoyed about it!

If you just so happen to have joined one of our tours, we’d love to hear about your experience on Tripadvisor or Tour Radar.

Snæland Travel has been a trusted partner of travel agencies worldwide since 1945. For over 80 years our family run company has worked with large industry names all over the world to provide travelers with unforgettable experiences as magical as Iceland itself.

Now we are turning our eyes directly to the traveler, that’s you, and offering a variety of custom made trips and organized tours easily accessible to individuals. Travelers can now book with one of the leading destination management companies (DMC) in Iceland directly through our site and get personal assistance from our experienced in-house customer service team.

What else is in it for you, besides 80 years of knowledge and a happy in-house team?

  1. Superior luggage allowance. Check each tour for specific details.

  2. The best certified local guides in Iceland who share folklore and stories of local legends that bring the land to life.

  3. A world of options whether you want to travel in a small group, in complete private, on your own schedule, or keep a good distance from the crowds.

  4. Experienced drivers who safely navigate Icelandic weather conditions and roads.

  5. Our very own best in class vehicles maintained by our own team of qualified mechanics.

  6. Unique experiences in every tour.

Due to traffic restrictions in the city center, your pickup location may not be directly in front of your hotel or accommodation but rather the closest bus stop.

It’s important that you provide the complete address of your accommodation when booking your tour and our convenient system will provide you with the closest pick-up location if direct pickup is not possible at your accommodation.

A good example is Hótel Óðinsvé where you’ll be guided to Bus Stop 8 at Hallgrímskirkja. To make it easy to find we’ve put together locations of all city center bus stops.

All our vehicles are easily recognizable, displaying the distinctive Snæland Travel logo and a sign in the window with the tour name.

First things first, have your correct email and phone number listed with us upon booking your tour so we can contact you if we run into any trouble finding you.

Pickup usually starts 30 minutes before the tour departure time. The exact information is provided in your booking. Please be ready at your pickup stop from the start of the pickup time indicated to avoid any delays, as you might be the first pickup of the day.

In the case of any unforeseen events you can always give us a call +(354) 588 8660 (or the contact number provided in your email).

We do welcome participants of all ages, however we do not recommend consecutive multi-day tours for children under the age of five due to the long days.

Travelers of all ages join our tour on the regular. If you have difficulty participating in any of the activities included in any of the tours, you are welcome to hang back and skip it.

If you have concerns about joining any of the tours please contact us and we’re happy to advise you.

Our Private Tours are popular with a diverse crowd of travelers. Families, especially those with younger children who may need more time and attention, benefit from traveling on their own schedule and with a dedicated driver, while cruise ship and layover passengers enjoy fully using their limited time on land without having to compromise and adjust to scheduled tours.

Travelers who are looking to avoid the crowds at all cost and travel in more luxury and style also greatly enjoy our private tours and the flexibility and control it comes with. If you feel like extending your time a bit at one location or skipping another, all you need to do is talk to your driver.

The beauty of our private tours is that hotel pickup and drop-off services within Reykjavík capital area are included with all private tours. Please note that groups of six people or more may be affected by Icelandic law which prohibits using larger vehicles within some streets in Reykjavik’s downtown area. In that case you may have to be picked up at your accommodation’s nearest bus stop. Most downtown hotels are within a 5 minute walking distance from bus stops.

When booking your tour our convenient system will provide you with the closest pick-up location if direct pickup is not possible at your accommodation for the vehicle required for your group size.

If you have any specific questions or need further details, reach out and we're happy to assist.

As the northern lights are a natural phenomenon a sighting cannot be guaranteed. Please be aware that we may have to cancel the tour if chances to see the lights are too low as we only operate when forecasts are promising. If we cancel you get a full refund.

A refund is not possible if the tour is operated and no lights were seen. However, in scheduled tours such as the Evening Aurora Hunt it's possible to join again in case you do not see the lights.

All our hotel partners are of the same standard, 3-4 star hotels with breakfast included, to guarantee a comfortable stay. The standard rooms on multi-day tours are Double/Twin Rooms with made up beds, towels, and private bathrooms. If you are traveling solo you can simply choose a single room during the booking process.

All hotels have complimentary Wifi and access to amenities including hairdryers and tea kettles.

Yes it can, however in most cases it won’t. As your safety is our number one priority, Snæland Travel reserves the right to adjust the itinerary and/or take different routes depending on weather and road conditions. Please read more on this under Terms and Conditions.

Yes, there is a trained and certified English speaking guide on each one of our tours, ready to make your day.

The only exceptions are Blue Lagoon and Sky Lagoon transfer tours, our Self-Drive tours, and Private tours unless a private guide has been requested at an additional charge.

Most private tours are bookable until 3-5 days prior to departure so that we have time to arrange your tour. Details are provided within every trip description. However, this does not apply to the Private Blue Lagoon Transfer.

If you’re looking to book a private tour with shorter notice please contact us and we’ll check the availability. Also contact us if your desired date is not available and we'll be happy to check if we're able to arrange a tour.

We’ve organized our private day tours from Reykjavík to range from 2.5 - 14 hours. Giving visitors a wide selection of tours to fit their time and schedule. Please refer to your desired tour's details for exact information.

Your Private Tour does not include food and beverages. For longer tours your driver can recommend where to stop and buy food, whether you're looking to sit down for lunch or quickly grab a bite before hitting the road again. For super jeep tours that venture into the highlands taking snacks for the road too is a good idea.

As this is a private excursion the schedule is yours to control within the duration of the tour. You can always consult your driver for advice.

All private tours and transfers include an experienced English-speaking driver. If you wish to have a certified local guide lead the tour for the day, you can submit a request by contacting us.

In this case, your expert driver-guide takes the wheel and provides detailed insights, stories, and context throughout the journey — both while driving and at each stop. You’ll have a dedicated private guide ready to show you the hidden perspectives, cultural depth, and local knowledge that most travelers never get to experience.

This private tour itinerary can be customized to suit your interests. If you’d like to explore more along the way, just let us know. We’re be happy to design the perfect itinerary and provide full details for your approval. Please note that additional charges may apply for customized routes.

Contact us with a request to customize your tour.

We’re always happy to create a journey that’s uniquely yours.

In Iceland, Type F power plugs and outlets are used. The standard voltage is 230 V at a frequency of 50 Hz. If you are visiting from the UK, USA, Canada or other countries using a different voltage, Hz or plugs you will need to bring an adapter.

Yes, Snæland Travel offers a number of family-friendly tours and activities. The Golden Circle Day Tour is a wonderful family experience where you see the must visit Gullfoss waterfall, the all age favorite Strokkur geyser, and stroll around Þingvellir National Park (the kids will love Peningagjá).

The Reykjavík City Tour & FlyOver Iceland Experience is also a great tour for those who want to stay in town and discover the city. There are no age restrictions however the Flyover Iceland Experience has a height requirement of 1m (ca. 3ft). Whale watching tours with our partner company Elding are also a time tested favorite for families with young children.

Another option could be one of our Stopover Packages that consist of multiple day tours so that you can rest easy in the same spot every night in Reykjavík, while also experiencing outer city adventures during the day.

Now, if you are travelling with an infant or small children you might feel more comfortable on one of our Private Driver tours so that you can easily adjust your schedule and enjoy a more relaxing time with your family.

For more recommendations we’re only a click away.

Dressing warm is the number one rule. More layers don’t always mean more warmth, that’s why we recommend thermal underwear, layered with fleece or down and then a wind- and/or waterproof outer layer like snow pants and a jacket. Don’t forget warm socks and mittens, good shoes, a hat and throw on a scarf just to be safe.

Please keep in mind that Northern Light Tours are operated in late winter evenings when temperature can drop well below 0°C (32°F).

You can expect to spend around 4-5 hours on the bus each day. We drive on average around 300 km (186 miles) per day on our consecutive multi-day tours. During the day we do of course stop at multiple locations for sightseeing, activities, meal stops and bathroom breaks, so in total a full day with stops is around 10 hours.

We operate a few of our consecutive multi-day tours in small groups where guests can enjoy traveling in a more intimate setting. The number of people in small groups is usually around 25.

Iceland's weather can change quickly, so layering your clothing is a must. We suggest dressing in warm, waterproof layers, including a waterproof jacket, sturdy footwear, and a hat and gloves to keep you comfortable in any conditions. Taking an extra pair of warm socks with you is also never a bad idea.
Make sure to bring a warm jacket in winter, especially for northern light tours as it can get cold standing outside on crisp winter nights.

Be aware that inland Iceland is usually colder than the Reykjavík area.
