A Private South Coast Tour of Iceland

A private tour is ideal for families or groups of friends who simply are looking to have a great time together. Skip the part where you need to wait for a pick up and switch busses and jump right into the adventure with your own driver and vehicle. A luxury which if you are a bigger group is not even more expensive than joining a scheduled tour.

Your own driver will pick you up before noon (this depends on your chosen pickup-time) and we leave the city of Reykjavik and descend Hellisheiði plateau. After crossing the city of Hveragerði with its greenhouses we'll take you along the south coast of Iceland, one of the country's most scenic region. We take you as far as Vík, a charming village surrounded by high beautiful bird cliffs.

Along the way we stop at the famous Seljalandsfoss waterfall where you can walk behind the waterfall itself and through to the other side.

We'll also stop at the majestic and much-photographed Skógafoss waterfall, with its impressive 60 m drop (196 ft). The waterfall has a huge flow of water which on sunny days allows us to see a rainbow or even a double rainbow in front of it.

You're back in Reykjavik in the evening ready for a late dinner.

Gullfoss waterfall with a vibrant rainbow arcing over the cascading water, surrounded by lush green landscape and a scenic pathway on Iceland’s Golden Circle.

Your private south shore tour along Iceland’s coast begins with a hassle-free pickup in Reykjavík. We head out of the city and you'll notice the landscapes changing from urban neighborhoods to farmlands, mountains and lava fields.

As we continue, we arrive at one of the region’s most iconic natural landmark, a 60-meter (197-foot) waterfall called Seljalandsfoss. A waterfall that interestingly enough once marked the edge of Iceland’s ancient coastline. Seljalandsfoss is unlike most other waterfalls as you can take advantage of the rare opportunity to walk behind the curtain of water for a panoramic view from within.

Just a short drive from Seljalandsfoss lies the mighty Skógafoss, one of Iceland’s most iconic waterfalls. With a dramatic 25-meter (82-foot) wide cascade and a thundering drop of 60 meters (196 feet) where the Skógá River plunges over ancient sea cliffs.

What truly sets Skógafoss apart is the constant mist that rises from the falls, often catching the sunlight and forming vivid single or double rainbows - a simply gorgeous sight on clear days. It’s the perfect spot to stretch your legs, take in the scenery, and capture some incredible photos before continuing your South Shore adventure.

Since this is a private tour and the schedule is flexible, it's a not-to-be-missed opportunity to walk to Gljúfrabúi waterfall that's hidden within the cliffs.

We continue along the coast to Reynisfjara, Iceland’s most famous black sand beach. You’ll notice the crashing waves and strikingly dark scenery right away. We’ll stop by Hálsanefshellir Cave on days with low tide and you can see the tall, geometric basalt columns that almost look man-made.

Out in the water, the Reynisdrangar sea stacks rise from the ocean. According to local legend, they were trolls caught by sunlight and turned to stone.

A short drive brings us to Vík í Mýrdal, the southernmost village in Iceland. It sits near the powerful Katla volcano and is known for its small red-roofed church perched on a hill. As we arrive, you’ll notice the sweeping views of the coastline—one of the most photographed spots in the country.

After exploring Vík, we start making our way back. You can sit back, relax, and take in the scenery on the drive to Reykjavík. Once there, you’ll be dropped off at your selected location.

Frequently Asked Questions

Our Private Tours are popular with a diverse crowd of travelers. Families, especially those with younger children who may need more time and attention, benefit from traveling on their own schedule and with a dedicated driver, while cruise ship and layover passengers enjoy fully using their limited time on land without having to compromise and adjust to scheduled tours.

Travelers who are looking to avoid the crowds at all cost and travel in more luxury and style also greatly enjoy our private tours and the flexibility and control it comes with. If you feel like extending your time a bit at one location or skipping another, all you need to do is talk to your driver.

The beauty of our private tours is that hotel pickup and drop-off services within Reykjavík capital area are included with all private tours. Please note that groups of six people or more may be affected by Icelandic law which prohibits using larger vehicles within some streets in Reykjavik’s downtown area. In that case you may have to be picked up at your accommodation’s nearest bus stop. Most downtown hotels are within a 5 minute walking distance from bus stops.

When booking your tour our convenient system will provide you with the closest pick-up location if direct pickup is not possible at your accommodation for the vehicle required for your group size.

If you have any specific questions or need further details, reach out and we're happy to assist.

All private tours and transfers include an experienced English-speaking driver. If you wish to have a certified local guide lead the tour for the day, you can submit a request by contacting us.

In this case, your expert driver-guide takes the wheel and provides detailed insights, stories, and context throughout the journey — both while driving and at each stop. You’ll have a dedicated private guide ready to show you the hidden perspectives, cultural depth, and local knowledge that most travelers never get to experience.

Your Private Tour does not include food and beverages. For longer tours your driver can recommend where to stop and buy food, whether you're looking to sit down for lunch or quickly grab a bite before hitting the road again. For super jeep tours that venture into the highlands taking snacks for the road too is a good idea.

As this is a private excursion the schedule is yours to control within the duration of the tour. You can always consult your driver for advice.

Iceland's weather can change quickly, so layering your clothing is a must. We suggest dressing in warm, waterproof layers, including a waterproof jacket, sturdy footwear, and a hat and gloves to keep you comfortable in any conditions. Taking an extra pair of warm socks with you is also never a bad idea.
Make sure to bring a warm jacket in winter, especially for northern light tours as it can get cold standing outside on crisp winter nights.

Be aware that inland Iceland is usually colder than the Reykjavík area.
