Itinerary

Our 6-Day Stopover Adventure in Iceland begins as you arrive at Keflavík International Airport, set on the edge of the Reykjanes Peninsula. From here, you make your way through quiet, volcanic terrain into the city, where an optional private transfer can be arranged with our company.

After settling into your pre-arranged hotel, you’ll have time to discover Reykjavík at your leisure. Within easy walking distance, you’ll find attractions like the Sun Voyager Sculpture, the colorful Rainbow Street (Skólavörðustígur), and the charming Grandi Harbor District with its cafés and boutiques. You might also visit the National Museum of Iceland to dive deeper into the country’s history. Reykjavík offers a vibrant food scene as well, with everything from cozy bistros to fine dining featuring fresh Icelandic ingredients.

*prices of optional services, including convenient airport transfer, are shown in the next step of the booking process.

Starting from Reykjavik, the tour first visits Þingvellir National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site renowned for its geological significance and historical importance as the site of Iceland's first parliament. Here, visitors can explore the dramatic rift valley where the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates meet.

Next, the tour moves to the geothermal area in Haukadalur, home to the famous geysers, including Geysir and Strokkur. Strokkur, which erupts every few minutes, offers an exhilarating spectacle as it spouts boiling water up to 30 meters into the air.

The final major stop is the magnificent Gullfoss, or "Golden Falls," where visitors can marvel at the powerful glacial river plunging into a deep canyon, creating a stunning double waterfall. The beauty of Gullfoss is particularly striking, with rainbows often visible on sunny days.

In the evening, you’ll head out on a guided Northern Lights excursion.
Your local guide will choose the best available spot based on conditions, aiming to get you away from city light and into clearer skies. The tour is planned for your second night, with flexibility built in — if weather or visibility doesn’t cooperate, there’s room to try again on the following evenings.

  • Walk between continents
  • Geysir geothermal area

On this day, we will enjoy a ride along the south coast of Iceland. This coastal road offers views of glacier tongues, waterfalls, rugged hills, black sand beaches, and its famous volcanoes.

We travel to Seljalandsfoss Waterfall, with a height of 60 m. You can walk behind the waterfall but dress well, as the water mist behind the waterfall can make you wet. Next, we admire the majestic Skógafoss Waterfall. It is one of the most powerful waterfalls in the country, 60 m high and 25 m wide. Due to the amount of spray the waterfall consistently produces, a single or double rainbow is usually visible on sunny days.

Next, we stop by the black sand beach at Reynisfjara to view the geological formation and the smashing waves. Be careful not to step too close as the waves can be dangerous. Before heading back to Reykjavík, we visit Vík í Mýrdal, a seafront village that sits in the shadow of Mýrdalsjökull glacier, which covers the Katla volcano.

Day Highlights

  • Seljalandsfoss
  • Skógafoss waterfall
  • Reynisfjara black sand beach
  • Reynisdrangar sea stacks

Included

  • Hotel breakfast
  • Pickup at hotel or closest bus stop

This optional tour offers a perfect blend of culture, storytelling, and culinary adventure.

Lake Tjornin View Of Reykjavik In Winter Large

Iceland’s weather is famously unpredictable, so packing smart is key to making the most of your day, whatever the conditions.

Here are a few essentials to bring along:

  • Remember to bring a bathing suit if opting for the Blue Lagoon.
  • Warm layers – It’s often colder inland than in Reykjavík.
  • Waterproof clothing – Sudden rain showers are common and important for your walk behind Seljalandsfoss if you're joining us on the south shore tour.
  • Snacks and Drinks – Your guide will also stop at places where you can buy refreshments, apart from the Blue Lagoon tour where you can go the in-house restaurants or café.
  • Fully charged phone and camera – Even at the Blue Lagoon you can bring your phone into the lagoon.
  • Waterproof case for phone and/or camera.
  • Hiking boots – Sturdy footwear is a must for rugged terrain.

As you're visiting in winter, we also recommend thermal layers, warm socks, and crampons, as trails can become icy.

Pickup Time:
Pickup starts 30 minutes before your scheduled departure times. Please ensure you are ready at your designated pickup point as you might be the first pickup of the day.

Pickup Locations:
Due to traffic restrictions in Reykjavík’s city center, we may not be able to pick you up directly from your accommodation. If so, our convenient booking system will automatically assign the nearest available pickup location for you. Usually located within 5 min walk from your accommodation.

Vehicle Identification:
All Snæland Travel vehicles are easy to spot, featuring our company logo and a window sign displaying the tour name.

Food and Drinks:
While there are stops along the route on the Golden Circle and South Shore tour where food and drinks can be purchased, we recommend bringing your own water and some snacks to keep you refreshed throughout the day. On the day of the Blue Lagoon tour you can visit the on site restaurants or café.

Frequently Asked Questions

If you're looking to fill your days with more adventure or are staying in Iceland past the six days we have plenty of activities worth exploring. Have a look at some of our suggestions:

Private Day Tours

Due to traffic restrictions in the city center, your pickup location may not be directly in front of your hotel or accommodation but rather the closest bus stop.

It’s important that you provide the complete address of your accommodation when booking your tour and our convenient system will provide you with the closest pick-up location if direct pickup is not possible at your accommodation.

A good example is Hótel Óðinsvé where you’ll be guided to Bus Stop 8 at Hallgrímskirkja. To make it easy to find we’ve put together locations of all city center bus stops.

All our vehicles are easily recognizable, displaying the distinctive Snæland Travel logo and a sign in the window with the tour name.

First things first, have your correct email and phone number listed with us upon booking your tour so we can contact you if we run into any trouble finding you.

Pickup usually starts 30 minutes before the tour departure time. The exact information is provided in your booking. Please be ready at your pickup stop from the start of the pickup time indicated to avoid any delays, as you might be the first pickup of the day.

In the case of any unforeseen events you can always give us a call +(354) 588 8660 (or the contact number provided in your email).

Yes, there is a trained and certified English speaking guide on each one of our tours, ready to make your day.

The only exceptions are Blue Lagoon transfer tour, our Self-Drive tours, and Private tours unless a private guide has been requested at an additional charge.

Iceland's weather can change quickly, so layering your clothing is a must. We suggest dressing in warm, waterproof layers, including a waterproof jacket, sturdy footwear, and a hat and gloves to keep you comfortable in any conditions. Taking an extra pair of warm socks with you is also never a bad idea.
Make sure to bring a warm jacket in winter, especially for northern light tours as it can get cold standing outside on crisp winter nights.

Be aware that inland Iceland is usually colder than the Reykjavík area.

All our hotel partners are of the same standard, 3-4 star hotels with breakfast included, to guarantee a comfortable stay. The standard rooms on multi-day tours are Double/Twin Rooms with made up beds, towels, and private bathrooms. If you are traveling solo you can simply choose a single room during the booking process.

All hotels have complimentary Wifi and access to amenities including hairdryers and tea kettles.

Yes it can, however in most cases it won’t. As your safety is our number one priority, Snæland Travel reserves the right to adjust the itinerary and/or take different routes depending on weather and road conditions. Please read more on this under Terms and Conditions.
