A couple walking along the colorful rainbow-painted street leading to Hallgrímskirkja in Reykjavík, Iceland, surrounded by vibrant buildings and autumn trees. Part of a Reykjavík city tour experience.

We begin the day with a visit to Hallgrímskirkja, Reykjavík’s most iconic landmark. Designed by state architect Guðjón Samúelsson, this soaring Lutheran church took nearly four decades to complete, from 1944 to 1982. Its unique tower design was inspired by Iceland’s basalt lava columns and erupting geysers. Inside, you’ll find a stunning 5,275-pipe organ, used for concerts throughout the year.

In front of the church stands a statue of Leifur Eiríksson, the Norse explorer believed to have reached North America around the year 1000 AD—a gift from the United States honoring Iceland’s Viking heritage.

Our next stop is Harpa, Reykjavík’s world-famous concert and conference center by the harbor. Designed by Ólafur Elíasson, Harpa’s glittering glass façade reflects the surrounding seascape and Icelandic nature, with patterns inspired by basalt formations and the Northern Lights. At night, the integrated lighting system brings the building alive with colorful, shifting designs. Harpa is home to the Icelandic Symphony Orchestra and hosts a range of events, festivals, and performances year-round.

Our next stop is Höfði House, a modest yet historically important building that played a major role on the global stage. Built in 1909 for the French consul, this early 20th-century residence later gained international attention as the site of the 1986 Reykjavík Summit between U.S. President Ronald Reagan and Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev—a meeting widely regarded as a turning point in easing Cold War tensions.

Over the years, Höfði has welcomed heads of state, writers, and diplomats. It’s also steeped in local legend, with stories of a resident ghost said to haunt its halls. Overlooking the North Atlantic, this quiet white house is a powerful symbol of Reykjavík’s role in both world history and Icelandic folklore.

We continue to Reykjavík’s Old Harbor, a charming district where colorful fishing boats and modern yachts share the docks. This area has evolved into a lively hub with artisan cafés, restaurants, boutiques, and museums. It’s a great place to see Reykjavík’s maritime roots while enjoying stunning views of Mount Esja across the bay.

Next, we visit Alþingi, Iceland’s historic Parliament House. Built in 1881 from hewn Icelandic stone, it is the seat of one of the world’s oldest parliaments, first established in 930 AD at Þingvellir. The building sits by Austurvöllur Square, a popular gathering place in the heart of the city.

The last highlight of the day is a visit to FlyOver Iceland, a thrilling virtual flight ride located in Reykjavík’s Grandi Harbor District. Using state-of-the-art technology, this immersive experience lifts you into the air in front of a giant spherical screen, giving the sensation of soaring across Iceland’s dramatic landscapes.

With your feet dangling and the wind, mist, and scents adding to the realism, you glide over glaciers, volcanoes, fjords, and waterfalls, all captured in stunning high definition. Before the flight, interactive exhibits introduce you to Iceland’s nature, history, and myths.

After this last stop your driver drops you off at your chosen drop-off location.
