Itinerary

On August 12, 2026, Iceland will witness its first total solar eclipse in over 70 years — and you’ll be there to see it. It starts slowly, as the Moon begins to move across the face of the Sun, casting a growing shadow. Then, the light will fade, the sky will fall quiet, and the Sun’s outer atmosphere, the corona, will appear in a glowing ring around the darkened Moon.

It’s a rare event and one that will be ideally visible from Iceland. With expert guides and a flexible route designed around weather and sky conditions, we’ll help you find the best possible place to experience it — safely, comfortably, and in good company.

Our journey starts with pickups at 12:00 noon and is estimated to end around 20:00, with drop-off at your chosen destination.

Total Solar Eclipse Medium

Our local driver guides will keep a close eye on weather conditions and cloud cover throughout the day. The route stays flexible so we can adjust as needed and make the most of visibility.

As we drive, you'll see Iceland’s varied landscapes unfold from open plains to coastal edges and volcanic ridges. Once we reach the best available location for viewing, you’ll have time to settle in, set up any gear, and get ready.

The eclipse will begin gradually and move toward totality. We stay on site to experience the full event from start to finish and pop open drinks to celebrate before making the return journey.

A Super Jeep is a specially modified vehicle built to take on Iceland’s roughest terrain with ease. Equipped with oversized 38" to 50" tires and a robust suspension system, these vehicles are engineered for comfort, capability, and safety on gravel roads, lava fields, snow-covered trails, and highland crossings. Super Jeeps are essential for reaching remote areas that standard vehicles simply can’t access.

Our Super Jeeps seat 10 to 18 passengers, making them ideal for small group adventures including the 2026 Solar Eclipse tour. With raised seating, large windows, and a smooth ride across rough terrain, you’ll enjoy both comfort and clear views as we head off the beaten path to find the best location for this astronomical event.

Due to traffic restrictions in the city center, your pickup location may not be directly in front of your hotel or accommodation but rather the closest bus stop.

It’s important that you provide the complete address of your accommodation when booking your tour and our convenient system will provide you with the closest pick-up location if direct pickup is not possible at your accommodation.

A good example is Hótel Óðinsvé where you’ll be guided to Bus Stop 8 at Hallgrímskirkja. To make it easy to find we’ve put together locations of all city center bus stops.

All our vehicles are easily recognizable, displaying the distinctive Snæland Travel logo and a sign in the window with the tour name.
