5-Day South Coast & Glacier Lagoon

Visit the Golden Circle, Jökulsárlón and South Coast sights while enjoying summer daylight hours.

5 Day South Coast Tour in a Small Group

Over five days, we take you to some of the most unforgettable places in Iceland — from glacier lagoons and black sand beaches to summer skies that never quite go dark.

We begin with the Golden Circle, where you’ll walk between tectonic plates at Þingvellir, see the geyser Strokkur erupt, and stand at the edge of Gullfoss waterfall. At Friðheimar Greenhouse, we pause for a look at Icelandic farming done with geothermal warmth and light.

From there, we travel east. You’ll see icebergs drift through Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon before they wash up on the black sands of Diamond Beach. We hike the trails at Skaftafell, explore Reynisfjara, and visit the waterfalls at Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss — each with space to pause and take it in.

You also have the option to add activities during your 5-Day South Coast tour:

  • Day 3: A guided Amphibian Boat Tour at Jökulsárlón where you sail past floating icebergs and local seals
  • Day 4: Blue Lagoon Comfort package with use of towel, one drink of your choice, mud mask and hotel transfer included

No matter what you choose, we keep the pace steady, the details handled, and the focus on the road ahead.

Itinerary

Your 5-day South Coast and Glacier Lagoon adventure begins as you land on the edge of the Reykjanes Peninsula. From here, you travel through quiet, volcanic landscapes toward the city. A private transfer can be arranged through our company to take you straight to your hotel.

Once checked in, take the rest of the day to get to know Reykjavík at your own pace. Your hotel is thoughtfully arranged through our trusted partner, with easy access to the city’s walkable streets. You might stroll along the harbor, visit the Sun Voyager sculpture, or explore the cafés and shops around Rainbow Street. There’s also time for a visit to the National Museum if you’re curious to learn more about Iceland’s past. When evening comes, the city’s restaurants offer plenty of good options — from Icelandic classics to simple, well-made meals.

Today we set out along one of Iceland’s most well-known routes — the Golden Circle. It’s where natural power and history meet, and where some of the country’s most iconic sights sit within reach of each other.

Our first stop is Þingvellir National Park. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is where the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates pull slowly apart, creating a wide rift in the land. It’s also where Iceland’s first parliament, Alþingi, was established more than a thousand years ago — a place that still carries meaning for Icelanders today.

From there, we continue to the Geysir geothermal area. Steam rises from the earth, the ground bubbles and hisses, and every few minutes, the Strokkur geyser shoots boiling water high into the air. The next stop is Gullfoss, a two-tiered waterfall where the Hvítá River crashes into a narrow canyon.

We round off the day with a quiet visit to Friðheimar  Greenhouse, where tomatoes grow year-round thanks to geothermal heat and local ingenuity. You’ll see how farming thrives even in Iceland’s climate and maybe even meet a few of the Icelandic horses that live here.

By evening, we continue south to the Vík area and settle in at a countryside hotel. It’s a good place to unwind and take in the stillness of the landscape especially under the long glow of summer light.

We continue east today, following the coast toward one of Iceland’s most extraordinary sights — Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon. This is where icebergs, freshly calved from the Breiðamerkurjökull glacier, drift across a still, blue lake before reaching the open sea. The colours change with the light, from milky white to deep, brilliant blue. If you'd like a closer look, there’s the option to join an Amphibian Boat Tour, gliding quietly among the ice.

Just across the road, the black volcanic shoreline of Diamond Beach stretches out scattered with glistening fragments of ice, polished by the tide.

In the afternoon, we head into Skaftafell, part of Vatnajökull National Park. This is a place shaped by glaciers and softened by valleys, home to trails that lead to views worth the walk. One of the highlights is Svartifoss waterfall, framed by hexagonal basalt columns. After a full day, we return to our countryside hotel near Vík.

Our final day on the road takes us back along the South Coast, past familiar landscapes that feel different in reverse. We start the morning at Reynisfjara, Iceland’s famous black sand beach, where basalt cliffs rise from the shore and sea stacks stand just offshore. The Atlantic comes in strong here, and in summer, puffins nest in the cliffs above.

Next, we visit two of Iceland’s most recognised waterfalls. First is Skógafoss, wide, steady, and always throwing up mist and the occasional rainbow. Then we stop at Seljalandsfoss, where a footpath leads behind the falls for a different perspective. Bring your rain gear as the spray is part of the fun.

Later in the day, we arrive at the Blue Lagoon. Set in the middle of a lava field, this warm, mineral-rich pool offers a quiet, otherworldly place to pause before the journey ends. If you’ve chosen the optional bathing at the Blue Lagoon you’ll have time for a soak, a silica mask, and one last deep breath of Icelandic air.

From here, we return to Reykjavík for your final night.
