Once everyone is onboard, we will take you south-eastwards towards the south coast of Iceland for a day full of amazing views and experiences.

Seljalandsfoss

Our first stop of the day is Seljalandsfoss Waterfall, one of Iceland's most iconic waterfalls. This 60-metre-high waterfall is unique in that visitors can walk behind the cascading water, offering a memorable experience. Just remember to wear water-resistant clothing, as there is considerable spray from the waterfall.

Skógafoss Waterfall

A little further east along the coast and at the foot of the famous Eyjafjallajökull volcano is the breathtaking Skógafoss Waterfall. This powerful cascade drops 60 meters and spans 25 meters in width, creating a stunning spectacle. You can climb to the top for breathtaking views or explore the base to feel the waterfall's mist. Skógafoss is not only visually impressive but also rich in legend and history, making it a must-visit stop on our journey. Don't miss the chance to capture unforgettable photos at this iconic location.

Reynisfjara Black Sand Beach

Next, Discover the unique beauty of Reynisfjara. This world-renowned black sand beach is famous for its impressive basalt columns, powerful Atlantic waves, and the striking Reynisdrangar sea stacks. Your guide might share a folklore or two and information about these geological formations at this legendary location.

Vík Village to Our Accommodation

We continue our travels through the picturesque village of Vík, nestled beneath the Mýrdalsjökull Glacier, onwards to our accommodation. The drive from Vík is a stunning journey along Iceland's southern coast. You'll traverse dramatic black sand deserts and pass through fields of green, moss-covered lava. The route includes views of majestic glaciers, such as Vatnajökull, Europe's largest glacier, and the scenic Skaftafell National Park. You'll cross glacial rivers and picturesque countryside, with the landscape constantly changing. Our accommodation is just east of the glacier lagoon, Jökulsárlón, which we will explore in detail on day two.

Northern Lights

We stay overnight in a country hotel, providing an ideal environment to view the Northern Lights due to minimal light pollution, as there is no city nearby. From September through March, if the skies are clear and the aurora forecast is favorable, we can watch the magic of the Northern Lights directly from the hotel. Please note that the Northern Lights are a natural phenomenon, and their appearance cannot be guaranteed.

The majestic Skogafoss waterfall covered in snow and ice during winter in Iceland, creating a serene and powerful scene.

Today, prepare for a day full of adventure as we explore the realm of the great Vatnajökull Glacier, Europe's largest glacier.

The Crystal Blue Ice Cave

The crystal blue ice cave is a remarkable phenomenon. Each winter, new caves are formed by the glacier's constant melting and freezing. The journey into an ice cave offers an exceptional chance to capture the blue light that passes through the glacial ice. You'll be enveloped by remarkably deep shades of blue, caused by the compression of the ice. During our exploration, we will encounter deep cracks known as crevasses, astonishing moulins—nearly cylindrical vertical shafts carved by meltwater from the glacier’s surface—and remarkable ice falls, akin to waterfalls but made of ice.

Travel from our hotel to Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon. From there, we'll drive off-road to the Vatnajökull Glacier in a modified super jeep. During this scenic drive, you will witness the best of the amazing glacial terrain. Upon arrival at the ice cave, we will provide you with the necessary glacier and safety equipment, and our experienced guides will lead you into this magical blue world. Our local guides are highly professional and knowledgeable about ice caves, ensuring you are in good and knowledgeable hands. After approximately an hour of exploring the caves, we will head back to Jökulsárlón.

Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon

We will also take time to further explore the breathtaking glacier lagoon. This 200-meter-deep lake is filled with floating icebergs from the nearby Breiðamerkurjökull Glacier, an outlet of Vatnajökull. Its striking blue waters and surreal landscapes make it a must-visit destination, offering stunning views and unique photographic opportunities.

Diamond Beach

Diamond Beach is a stunning black sand beach just across the road from Jökulsárlón where icebergs from the lagoon wash ashore. The ice fragments glisten like diamonds against the dark sand, creating a striking and otherworldly landscape. It's a also popular spot for photographers and nature lovers.

Return to Reykjavík

We travel back to Reykjavík, with an estimated arrival time of around 20:00 – 21:00. The itinerary on both days depends on road conditions and the weather. The guide may decide to skip a visit on day 1 and schedule it for the return journey to Reykjavík on day 3 instead.

Frequently Asked Questions

You can expect to spend around 4-5 hours on the bus each day. We drive on average around 300 km (186 miles) per day on our consecutive multi-day tours. During the day we do of course stop at multiple locations for sightseeing, activities, meal stops and bathroom breaks, so in total a full day with stops is around 10 hours.

Not at all. We’re happy to have our local experts operate on the east side of Vatnajökull glacier, while the large day-tour companies stick to the west side. This means our tours visit a more secluded area of the glacier, yes there’ll be other people but less than in other areas. To reach this area visitors ride in a modified super jeep from Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon.

We also aim to get an early start, when possible, to arrive before other visitors.

We’re excited to give our guests a bonus experience whenever we can. Although we can’t guarantee a northern light show-up on this winter excursion, our guides do monitor the aurora forecast and let guests know if conditions at night are optimal for a viewing.

We’ve even made sure to book hotels situated away from heavy light pollution to increase our chances.

Please keep in mind that refunds are not issued when a tour takes place but no Northern Lights are seen.

Yes you can. For your convenience we’ve organized the tour so that it accounts for your day of arrival. You can even add a private airport transfer with us directly. Just add the service during the second step of the booking process.

You’ll spend the first night at a hotel in Reykjavík where you’ll meet your guide in the morning of the second day.

Yes, we’re happy to inform you that breakfast is indeed included. Most hotels offer a plentiful breakfast buffet with fresh options ranging from fruits and vegetables to pastries and coffee.

A breakfast buffet is included at the hotel usually offering bread, toppings, yogurt, fruits, cereal, coffee, tea etc.

Your guide also makes sure to find a good place for lunch. Usually opting in for places with a wide selection of dishes on the menu, so there are options for everyone.

We end the day at the hotel restaurant where you can purchase dinner a la carte.

Amazing as that would be, unfortunately Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon freezes over in winter so there are no boat tours operating in the winter months. We’ll enjoy the amazing sight that is Jökulsárlón in winter, a view of the lake and glacier, combined with a walk on Diamond Beach make for great photo opportunities.

Yes you can. For your convenience we’ve organized the tour so that it accounts for your day of departure. You can even add a private airport transfer with us directly. Just add the service during the second step of the booking process.

The last night of the tour you’ll spend the night at a hotel in Reykjavík giving you a relaxing and comfortable night's sleep before your departure flight on the final day.

We do welcome participants of all ages, however we do not recommend consecutive multi-day tours for children under the age of five due to the long days.

Travelers of all ages join our tour on the regular. If you have difficulty participating in any of the activities included in any of the tours, you are welcome to hang back and skip it.

If you have concerns about joining any of the tours please contact us and we’re happy to advise you.

Please keep in mind that children under the age of 8 can not enter the Ice cave. Parents of children who do not meet the age requirement are welcome to stay back at Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon and enjoy the area.

We operate a few of our consecutive multi-day tours in small groups where guests can enjoy traveling in a more intimate setting. The number of people in small groups is usually around 25.
