Next, visit the Geysir hot spring area, home to the original geyser and its active neighbor, Strokkur, which erupts spectacularly every few minutes.

Then, marvel at Gullfoss, the majestic golden waterfall, renowned for its breathtaking beauty and powerful cascades.

We head east, along the southern shore, to the unique Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon and the Diamond Beach. The Lagoon developed around 60 years ago with a continuous process of calving and falling icebergs from the glacier tongue Breiðamerkurjökull. These icebergs are seen in two shades: milky white and bright blue, an interplay of light and ice crystals. The Lagoon is filled with fishes that drift in from the sea along with the tides. Seals gather in large numbers at the mouth of the Lagoon to catch the fish during winter, which is a sight to be seen.

Located nearby, visit the Diamond Beach, renowned for its stunning black sand covered with sparkling icebergs that have washed ashore. These icebergs, originating from the glacier lagoon, create a breathtaking contrast against the dark volcanic sand, making it a popular spot for photographers and nature enthusiasts. The ever-changing landscape of ice fragments glistening in the sunlight provides a unique and mesmerizing experience.

On the way back to our hotel, we visit Skaftafell, part of Vatnajökull National Park. Skaftafell is a nature lover’s paradise known for its stunning landscapes. It features a diverse array of natural wonders, including glaciers, waterfalls, and lush vegetation. Highlights include the breathtaking Svartifoss waterfall, framed by dark basalt columns, and numerous hiking trails that offer spectacular views of the surrounding scenery.

A visitor sitting by Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon in Iceland, admiring the floating icebergs with snow-capped mountains in the background.

On this day, we will enjoy a ride along the south coast of Iceland. This coastal road offers views of glacier tongues, waterfalls, rugged hills, black sand beaches, and its famous volcanoes. We visit the black sand beach at Reynisfjara to view the geological formation and the smashing waves. Be careful not to step too close as the waves can be dangerous.

Next, stop and admire the majestic Skógafoss Waterfall before driving to Seljalandsfoss Waterfall, with a height of 60 m. Here you can walk behind the waterfall but dress well, as the water mist behind the waterfall can make you wet.

The final highlight before getting back to Reykjavik is the spectacular Blue Lagoon. The Blue Lagoon is on the National Geographic list of 25 wonders of the world, claiming it is a geothermal gift of nature. Enjoy soaking in the mineral-rich water with its fine silica mud experience (this is an optional extra).

From the Blue Lagoon, we head to Reykjavik and drop you off at your hotel.

The tour is perfect if you are looking to cover major attractions of Iceland. It is value for money and recommended if you are travelling to Iceland for the first time. The accommodation provided is excellent and the guide and the bus throughout was very very comfortable and guide was always available in case of any questions. Please book a tour guide with Ellert who is absolutely fabulous. I would recommend this trip to everyone who are visiting Iceland for the first time.

Frequently Asked Questions

Due to traffic restrictions in the city center, your pickup location may not be directly in front of your hotel or accommodation but rather the closest bus stop.

It’s important that you provide the complete address of your accommodation when booking your tour and our convenient system will provide you with the closest pick-up location if direct pickup is not possible at your accommodation.

A good example is Hótel Óðinsvé where you’ll be guided to Bus Stop 8 at Hallgrímskirkja. To make it easy to find we’ve put together locations of all city center bus stops.

All our vehicles are easily recognizable, displaying the distinctive Snæland Travel logo and a sign in the window with the tour name.

As much as we would like to, we can’t guarantee a Northern Light show-up. However, we do choose remote locations away from light pollution to increase the chances of spotting the phenomenal lights.

We’ve even made sure to book a hotel situated a bit outside of town for an optimal view.

We’re excited to give our guests a bonus experience whenever we can. Although we can’t guarantee a northern light show-up on this winter excursion, our guides do monitor the aurora forecast and let guests know if conditions at night are optimal for a viewing.

We’ve even made sure to book hotels situated away from heavy light pollution to increase our chances.

Please keep in mind that refunds are not issued when a tour takes place but no Northern Lights are seen.

For the best experience, we suggest planning your multi-day tour to start at least a day after you arrive in Iceland. If you're landing no later than 06:30 in the morning, it's possible to join the tour on the same day. You can even add a private airport transfer with us directly. Just add the service during the second step of the booking process.

However, keep in mind that any flight delays could result in missing out on the tour. If you wish to include accommodation in Reykjavík a day before and after the tour, have a look at the 5-Day Northern Light Tour.

Yes, we’re happy to inform you that breakfast is indeed included. A plentiful breakfast buffet with fresh options ranging from fruits and vegetables to pastries and coffee.

A breakfast buffet is included at the hotel usually offering bread, toppings, yogurt, fruits, cereal, coffee, tea etc.

Your guide also makes sure to find a good place for lunch. Usually opting in for places with a wide selection of dishes on the menu, so there are options for everyone.

We end the day at the hotel restaurant where you can purchase dinner a la carte.

You can expect to spend around 4-5 hours on the bus each day. We drive on average around 300 km (186 miles) per day on our consecutive multi-day tours. During the day we do of course stop at multiple locations for sightseeing, activities, meal stops and bathroom breaks, so in total a full day with stops is around 10 hours.

Amazing as that would be, unfortunately Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon freezes over in winter so there are no boat tours operating in the winter months. We’ll enjoy the amazing sight that is Jökulsárlón in winter, a view of the lake and glacier, combined with a walk on Diamond Beach make for great photo opportunities.

All guests will arrive at the Blue Lagoon and spend about two hours on site whether they have opted for bathing in the lagoon or not. Those who have paid for an admission ticket go for a swim in the lagoon while others have the chance to walk around the lava fields, purchase coffee and snacks and hit the Blue Lagoon shops.

Admission to bathing in the Blue Lagoon is an optional activity on day three. When you book the tour make sure to add the Blue Lagoon to your booking. You’ll find the option at the second step in the booking process.

The drive from Reykjavík to the Blue Lagoon is about 40 minutes and guests will enjoy 2 hours in the lagoon. Afterward visitors meet their driver and guide again and head back to their hotel in Reykjavík (or the nearest bus stop due to city center traffic restrictions).

Included in the price of Blue Lagoon is:

  • Transportation

  • Comfort Admission ticket

  • Use of towel

  • 1st Drink of choice at the swim-up bar

  • Silica Mud Mask at he Mask Bar

*current prices of optional activities are shown in the next step of the booking process.

For the best experience, we suggest planning your multi-day tour to end at least a day before your departure flight from Iceland as the tour ends in the afternoon. If you're flying out late at night, after 22:00, it's possible to make your flight the same day. You can even add a private airport transfer with us directly. Just add the service during the second step of the booking process.

However, keep in mind that bad weather or delays could affect your tour end time. If you wish to include accommodation in Reykjavík before and after the tour, have a look at the 5-Day Northern Light Tour.

We do welcome participants of all ages, however we do not recommend consecutive multi-day tours for children under the age of five due to the long days.

Travelers of all ages join our tour on the regular. If you have difficulty participating in any of the activities included in any of the tours, you are welcome to hang back and skip it.

If you have concerns about joining any of the tours please contact us and we’re happy to advise you.
